Frequently Asked Questions

Is Advanced Learner loan the same as student finance?

The loans are now called Advanced Learner Loans. This loan is taken out with the Student Loans Company via Student Finance England. This is the same organisation that currently has responsibility for the Loan system used in Universities and other Colleges of Higher Education (H.E.).

Do Advanced Learner loans get written off?

Until then you don't repay anything. And if you haven't paid the loan back within 30 years, any remaining amount will be written off.

How do I contact student loans?

For potential students, currently enrolled students, loan borrowers, and families, visit the “Contact Us” page, or contact Federal Student Aid at 1-800-433-3243 or by email at [email protected] to be directed to someone who can help you.

How do I find my student loan balance?

Here's how you can check your balance using the NSLDS:
  1. Sign in to your Federal Student Aid account using your FSA ID, or create an ID if you don't already have one.
  2. Access your dashboard to see your current balance, your original principal amount, your interest rate, your current status and your loan servicer.

@SF_England @llanya798 @llanya798 Hi Llanya, are you the child of a migrant worker who is over the age of 21? If so, you should have been sent an email advising why that evidence wasn't accepted and what is required. When and how were you advised that the evidence you sent wasn't enough? Thanks, Clare

@SF_England @hotdogbutera Hi Red, the special support loan is assessed at the same time as maintenance support and included with your overall amount. You need to send evidence such as a benefit letter when you reapply; the maximum entitlement for 22/23 is £11064. Thanks, Erin N

@SF_England @hotdogbutera Hi Red, it sounds like your friend received the special support loan. This is a higher rate of maintenance loan for students receiving benefits such as PIP. Thanks, Erin N
