What is APRS Fi?

What is aprs.fi? This is a global APRS database, which archives position tracking, weather and message information collected from the APRS-IS network. Position data and routes traveled by APRS tracking stations are shown on an interactive map which can be zoomed and panned easily.

What is the purpose of APRS?

In its simplest implementation, APRS is used to transmit real-time data, information and reports of the exact location of a person or object via a data signal sent over amateur radio frequencies.

Do I need to register for APRS?

Registering with the website is only necessary if you want to use the web management tools to configure your aliases, shortcuts and view your profile. There are a few things that need to be done before you can register to use the web tools.

@aprsfi @KawausoDashi It works for me on Mac and Linux, so it's probably a Windows problem. Can you ask Microsoft to fix it? Or try Linux? (This is the answer a part of me would like to give, but I guess I'll have to do better and dig out a Windows laptop from the rubbish bin. I'll be back.)

@aprsfi @xssfox Some APRS apps will surely sometimes send more than 1 frame back-to-back. You are allowed to send many packets at once in a single transmission on RF but the control bytes would need to be suppressed of course. Flag(s) between packets are needed I think.
