The Aspen Skiing Company is currently owned by the Crown family of Chicago. The Crowns also own significant holdings in General Dynamics and Wall Street's JP Morgan Chase. The President and CEO of the company is Mike Kaplan, who succeeded Pat O'Donnell.
Are Aspen and Snowmass connected?
Aspen Highlands, Aspen (or Ajax) Mountain, Buttermilk, and Snowmass can all be skied with the same ticket. Aspen, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk are clustered close to downtown Aspen, whereas Snowmass is down the valley near Snowmass Village. A free shuttle system connects the four.

Aspen has an edge on Snowmass when it comes to its proximity to the other mountains that are part of Aspen Snowmass. Both Aspen Highlands Ski Resort and Buttermilk Ski Area are just three miles from downtown Aspen. Snowmass is about six miles away from Buttermilk and eight miles from Aspen Highlands.
