Frequently Asked Questions

What is BART EZ Rider?

New technology makes parking more convenient for EZ Riders
The BART Board approved the “EZ Rider Parking Program.” It's aimed at establishing a more customer-friendly system for drivers who park and then ride BART by allowing them to use EZ Rider smartcards to pay for parking as well as their BART fares.

How do you use BART EZ Rider?

EZ Rider: The EZ Rider parking program allows you to pay for Daily Fee parking at any BART station by tagging the Clipper card registered on your EZ Rider account on a parking validation machine. Register on the EZ Rider website and follow the instructions to pay.

How do I set up a BART parking account?

Go to http://ezrider.bart.gov/ezrider/signup.jsp. Click on “Create New Account.” • Select “BART Parking Account.” • Follow the prompts to create a new account. o A valid Clipper card serial number is required. o Have your new Mastercard available, as you will need to enter the Mastercard number and expiration date.

How do I add BART parking to my Clipper card?

At the station, open the official BART app, select parking and follow the prompts to select your station, parking stall number and payment method. After paying for your spot with the app, simply tag your linked Clipper card at the faregate within the time limit the app provides.

@SFBART @Sr_Lazarus There isn’t a reason for someone to stay on the train because it is the end of the line. The Antioch train boards on the opposite platform. BART police have train door keys, but SFPD don’t, perhaps it was an SFPD officer. Each car has an emergency door release handle.

@SFBART @Sr_Lazarus When the Red line train from Millbrae arrives at SFO, the Train Operator makes an out of service announcement because it is the end of the run and the train operator goes on break. They key off and the doors close. Doors will not reopen until the next train operator boards.

@SFBART Why domed tile? The answer seems to be one of practicality and utility: The tiles are easy-to-clean, while the signature dome shape acts as a deterrent to graffiti. “Vandals apparently have difficulty writing on them,” a 1983 San Francisco Examiner article says of the tiles. https://t.co/bnU2sYYBYw

@SFBART How does rain cause wheel flats? When the track is wet, frosty, or slippery, the wheels will slide instead of spin when braking and accelerating, causing flats. The faster the acceleration + speed, the more slip-spin, especially when braking as the train stops at the station.

@SFBART Fallen trees are everywhere in the Bay Area with this current storm. Last night, BART service on the Yellow Line was briefly impacted by a fallen tree. Currently @Caltrain crews are working hard to remove one near Hillsdale. Thank you to the tireless crews across the Bay Area! https://t.co/oj5OOzQ7iz

@SFBART @ihaveaten When the track is slippery, the wheels need to grind more to brake and accelerate, causing flats. The Yellow line gets lots of flats because there is more track exposed to the elements and stations are further apart so trains reach higher speeds (requiring more braking to stop).

@SFBART We’ve moved trains from other yards to help the Yellow line (which also results in canceled trips on the Green and Red line as mentioned earlier). 2/2

@SFBART Riders are seeing shorter trains and canceled trains on the yellow line because that line is disproportionately impacted due to the higher train speeds (stations are further apart so the train gains more speed) and the amount of track exposed to the elements on that line. 1/2

@SFBART @jlhardyphd Excessive braking and spinning from slippery rails cause flat spots. Our Yellow (Antioch) line is disproportionately impacted due to the higher train speeds (stations are further apart so the train gains more speed) and the amount of track exposed to the elements on that line.

@SFBART When we have a high number of cars in the shop we have to cancel trains- this is why we have limited Green (Berryessa to Daly City) and Red (Richmond to Millbrae/SFO) line service. Stations along these lines are also served by the Orange and Blue line and riders can transfer. 3/3

@SFBART Crews are working around the clock at each of our four maintenance shops to resurface or replace wheels and restore scheduled service levels.  This will take considerable time and effort due to the ongoing heavy rain we are experiencing this winter. 2/3 https://t.co/6hJGKEVAQh

@SFBART Wet weather game plan: Trains are running slower to prevent flat spots from developing on wheels and so operators can look for debris on the tracks, resulting in 5-20 min delays. We also have canceled trains because the high number of cars in maintenance due to flat spots. 1/3

@SFBART @kristia73763449 @SFBARTalert We had a problem that has now been resolved. The destination signs are now reading correctly.

@SFBART 7:35pm update: Our amazing Train Operator checked things out and while the tracks are clear, the tree is wedged between the coverboard and third rail which could cause problems for any trains passing through. We will single track around the area until crews can safely remove.
