What are the foundations of assessment?
Any assessment is based on three interconnected elements or foundations: the aspects of achievement that are to be assessed (cognition), the tasks used to collect evidence about students' achievement (observation), and the methods used to analyze the evidence resulting from the tasks (interpretation).
What is the purpose of assessment in the Foundation Phase?
The main purpose of assessment is to provide information on learner achievement and progress and set the direction for continuous teaching and learning. Assessment goes far beyond testing.
