Does stem cell donation hurt?
The transplant will usually be carried out a day or 2 after conditioning has finished. The stem cells will be passed slowly into your body through the central line. This process often takes around a couple of hours. The transplant won't be painful and you'll be awake throughout.

Donors never pay for donating, and are never paid to donate. All medical costs for the donation procedure are covered by the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP), which operates the Be The Match Registry®, or by the patient's medical insurance, as are travel expenses and other non-medical costs.
