What is Smhfa?
It offers basic general information about mental health problems. The knowledge presented and understanding developed in the course helps to remove stigma and fear and to give confidence in approaching a person in distress.
What are the basic steps of Mhfa?
Mental Health First Aiders are trained to:
- Spot the early signs and symptoms of mental ill health.
- Start a supportive conversation with a colleague who may be experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress.
- Listen to the person non-judgementally.
- Assess the risk of suicide or self-harm.
How do I become a mental health first aid instructor in Scotland?
Attended a 12-hour course within 12-months prior to coming on the instructor training. Personal and/or professional experience in the field of mental health. Experience of delivering training/teaching effectively. Networking experience.
