Do you need a practicing certificate to certify documents?
A. You do not need to have a practising certificate to certify a copy of a document as the true copy of an original. However, you must not mislead the person signing the document, or the recipient of the document, as to your status.
How long does a practising certificate last?
Practising certificates are renewed for three years.
Can a solicitor practice without a practising certificate?
The determining factor is whether you are employed in connection with the provision of legal services; if so, you are deemed to be practising as a solicitor and must therefore hold a practising certificate, regardless of whether you are held out as a solicitor.
