Frequently Asked Questions

What coding program does Girls Who Code use?

In this new Code at Home series, you will learn to program a collecting game using p5. js, a JavaScript library created, especially for artists and designers. Each download includes the activity and a reference guide.

How can I join Girls Who Code?

While our programs are designed for participants who identify as female to promote a girls-supportive environment, we encourage our Clubs to welcome any 3rd-12th grade member who wishes to join the Girls Who Code mission regardless of gender identity.

What is a Girls Who Code Club?

Girls Who Code | Clubs. Clubs for students to explore coding in a fun & friendly environment. What's a Club? Clubs are free programs for 3rd-5th and 6th-12th grade girls and non-binary students to join a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models using computer science to change the world.

What is summer immersion program Girls Who Code?

WHAT IS THE SUMMER IMMERSION PROGRAM? In the 2-week Summer Immersion Program (SIP), high school students attend live, virtual classes sponsored by industry-leading companies. SIP participants learn web development with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while getting an inside look into the tech industry.

Why do girls code?

By learning code at an early age, girls develop a better grasp for the technology, which helps them find better solutions and manage failure. Teaching girls to code gives children the chance to experience the feeling of failure, so that they learn not to give up when something doesn't work out, but rather begin again.

Can girls be coders?

It's a confidence gap. Because of the common sexist stereotypes, many women think they are not a good fit for coding. According to research, female coders with more than eight years of experience demonstrate the same confidence about their skills as male coders with no experience at all.

Can I learn to code at home?

It's possible—and not uncommon—to learn how to program online from the comfort of your own home. Many websites present educational courses that can be accessed for free and are beneficial to both novice coders and experienced coders looking to pick up a few new professional tricks.
