What is the purpose of Oacas?

OACAS aims to advance Ontario's child welfare knowledge and help foster the importance of everyone playing a role in the safety and well-being of our children and youth. First Nation, Métis and Inuit Services – OACAS works to enhance the lives of Indigenous children involved in the child welfare system in Ontario.

As a parent, your legal duty is to protect your child from harm and provide for their basic needs like food and shelter. If the CAS has a reason to believe that you are not doing this, it can investigate your family. The CAS must follow specific rules and procedures to decide if a child is in need of protection.
