Is Salk Institute open to visitors?
Yes. Visitors and groups of seven or smaller are permitted on campus Monday—Fridays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. with advance reservation. Visitors will be required to pay an online $7.50 fee to fund the Architectural Conservation Program before visiting campus.
What is Salk?
Salk vaccine: Vaccine against poliomyelitis named for Dr. Jonas Salk who developed and introduced it in 1955. It was the first type of polio vaccine to become available. It was made by cultivating three strains of the virus separately in monkey tissue.
