Is FACS the same as board certified?
All board-certified surgeons have satisfactorily completed an approved residency training program and have passed a rigorous specialty examination. The letters F.A.C.S. (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons) after a surgeon's name are a further indication of a physician's qualifications.
How do you become a FACS member?
Applicants for Fellowship must have been in an independent practice for a minimum of three-years (on or before December 1, 2018) and be board certified in your country. Canadian surgeons, please visit the Fellows page to apply. For more details, review the Fellowship Requirements.
What is a FACS MD?
Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (or FACS) is a professional certification for a medical professional who has passed a set of criteria for education, qualification, and ethics required to join the American College of Surgeons. FACS is used as a post-nominal title, such as John Citizen, MD, FACS.
How do I find out if a surgeon is good?
An excellent starting point to finding out if your doctor is any good is to ask for their PROMS reports, and in the case of surgery, for their most recent individual 'Joint Registry' outcome reports.
