What qualifications do I need to work in a forest school?
You have to be at least 21 years old. You need at least 2 years experience of working with groups in an education setting (children, young people, adults) and in a leadership capacity and/or a recognised qualification to level 2 at least in teaching, Forest School, childcare, play work, youth work or support work.
What is Forest School Level 3?
Level 3 is designed to qualify the trainee to become a Forest School Leader,able to set up and run a Forest School programme. Level 3 covers how to facilitate groups in a learner-centred way, and how to manage a Forest School site sustainably. It also covers the practical skills required of a Forest School Leader.
What is involved in forest school training?
There are practical assignments and a portfolio to submit. This covers tasks such as safe tool use, lighting fires, den building and other skills. It also includes child development and how children learn. Part of the course involves identifying a suitable site, establishing and running 6 Forest School sessions.
Are Forest Schools good?
It is excellent for healthy bodies as it ensures children are physically active throughout the day. With the current obesity epidemic, this is a great benefit as Forest School children enjoy more exercise and less sedentary learning than their peers.
