@gdcuk @GinnyAB @MrScottMaskell @parthaskar @trentconsultant @goldstone_tony @JosephineCumbo You also lose valuable Ill Health Retirement benefits If you've had a large tax bill, there's a chance that: 1) Tax charge is wrong 2) It will be better post McCloud 3) Benefit is worth it, even after using Scheme Pays If not, then there may be other things you can do

@gdcuk @Pearla2016 Under current proposals for April you could retire with 95 benefits and return to pensionable employment in 2015 From Oct, you could take 95 benefits without having to retire and continue in 2015, much better as no renegotiation of employment on potentially less favourable terms

@gdcuk Such a shame that partial retirement in 95 scheme is delayed as it is actually a good idea (It could be improved further, if consultation feedback about the conditions attached to it is addressed) Alternative is full retire & return for now, but that has risks for the member https://t.co/jeo5TlAFiX

@gdcuk @JanahanSa Yes, even with an added years contract, rolling back your 2015 membership into the 95 scheme can reduce your overall growth during the remedy period (2015-2022) and potentially provide a bit of carry forward for 22/23 too (all depends on individual service pattern)

@gdcuk @parthaskar @trentconsultant @goldstone_tony @JosephineCumbo With a tax charge of that size it's worth checking: 1) Is it correct? (Lots of things can go wrong with pension records that can trigger incorrect charges) 2) Does McCloud make it better? 3) Is the benefit worth it (i.e. will it manifest), or does it need to be undone?

@gdcuk It's understandable that many Drs feel the only course of action is to reduce their hours, but this is not always necessary 1) Pension records & AA charges can be wrong 2) McCloud remedy could ameliorate current AA charges, example👇 NB - longer term fix very much still needed https://t.co/m2FNBeBGFh https://t.co/H96QzUlx2H
2022-12-14 00:00:00
Lamp
@gdcuk @tb_doc @NHSBartsHealth @goldstone_tony It is a shame that current regime puts Drs in this position, however there may be other options: 1) Check your pension record to see if the charge is correct 2) McCloud remedy rollback may negate the charge entirely 3) Current proposals could reduce 22/23 AA charge significantly
2022-12-14 00:00:00
Lamp
@gdcuk @tightropetom Completely agree that this is a confusing subject - there's lots of different pension scheme rules and complex taxation rules The key information in the example above is; pre-McCloud the member is charged £22,754 over 3 years, but the McCloud rollback changes this to £nil
2022-12-14 00:00:00
Lamp
@gdcuk @pingtiao If you are owed a rebate for AA charges during the remedy period (2015-2022) then you will receive this money back Government have indicated this will include interest (rate to be determined by Government Actuary Department) Process might not be available until October 2024
2022-12-14 00:00:00

@gdcuk @mrneilroberts Unfortunately the scheme does not provide them yet and government have given them the deadline of 6th October 2024 to produce them I agree it's a nonsense that current AA charges are still demanded despite knowing McCloud changes them dramatically

Lamp
@gdcuk @DrAnneCarson @tb_doc @NHSBartsHealth @goldstone_tony It really depends on the individual. In the example below, which shows a not too dissimilar AA charge as OP, McCloud turns the £,000s AA charge into £nil, so no need to drop PAs. It's a nonsense system, that's too complex https://t.co/V5tYVosBQf

Lamp
@gdcuk @DrAnneCarson @tb_doc @NHSBartsHealth @goldstone_tony Completely agree. The video I did with @goldstone_tony showed that whilst there may be some very short term respite because of McCloud the current issues resurge and government need to take action so members can just concentrate on the job, rather than worry about unfair taxation

Lamp
@gdcuk @Orthodoc2031 @goldstone_tony Annual allowance carry forward allows use of unused allowance from the previous 3 years, but those 3 years are also impacted by the 3 years before them, which is why you need to go further back on the HMRC AA calculator. To avoid any risk of getting it wrong, use 2010/11 onwards

@gdcuk @MarkBelchamber @goldstone_tony 👍 yes, we point out in the video (15:30) that a typical consultant can take on WLI / additional PAs without major pension taxation worries BTW non pensionable income can have a little impact even below £200k, if it pushes more excess growth from Higher rate to Additional rate

@gdcuk @emmavardy2 65k is a very large AA charge and worth checking if pension record is correct, lots of ways it can go wrong BTW, Extra PAs/WLIs don't impact pensionable pay, so won't cause more issues unless income close to £200k McCloud remedy rollback should improve the AA position for many

@gdcuk @nick_grundy @DrBenMolyneux @goldstone_tony It's a relatively new document (i think about 4/5 months old) It combines historic Annual Allowance data with the AA's Teams internal Service & Pay extract report It's now available through the contact centre Makes it relatively easy to spot errors & gaps in service Example👇 https://t.co/Llyk3rMZ1d
