How do I log in to my account? Access to login can be found on the top right of the website on a desktop screen. On a mobile device, open the menu on the top right to find the login link.

How do I lodge a VCAT application?

If you need to help to fill in the VCAT application form, talk to us.
  1. Call us on 1300 018 228 (1300 01 VCAT), Monday - Friday 9am - 4.30pm. For guardianship cases call us 9am - 5pm.
  2. If you're overseas, call us on +61 3 8685 1462.
  3. If you need to speak to someone in your own language you can ask for an interpreter.

What is a VCAT application?

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) hears disputes between rental providers (landlords) and renters. It is not a court, but it can make decisions that must be followed by rental providers and renters. It is intended to be informal and cheap, and to resolve disputes quickly and fairly.

What issues does VCAT deal with?

VCAT can hear and decide cases about unlawful discrimination, sexual harassment, victimisation or vilification. We can also grant and revoke exemptions, which allow conduct that would otherwise be prohibited discrimination.

What does VCAT help with?

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) resolves legal disputes and cases in Victoria. We are a tribunal, which means we're less formal than a court. We hear and decide cases according to the law.

What types of cases can VCAT hear?

  • Housing and property. Applications about renting, strata and other residential property disputes.
  • Consumers and businesses. Disputes about the supply of goods and services, and retail lease disputes.
  • Guardianship.

How much can you claim at VCAT?

Limits to the applications you can make
There is no monetary limit to claims under this Act, but generally VCAT cannot: compensate a person for non-monetary losses, except for personal injuries (up to $10,000) make non-monetary orders (for example, order an apology).
